Due to the boom in the shipbuilding combined with the expansion of the dredging market a new strategy had to be followed for the building of dredging vessels. Dutch shipyards claimed high prices and long delivery times. Therefore Deme ordered a number of vessels in the Far East. The engineering was done at Dutch and German engineering companies and the main components were OFE due to the long delivery times. During that period I was the project manager for the building of 2 3000m3 split barges (build in Battam) and 2 medium sized 13000kW self propelled rock cutter suction dredgers (build in Singapore). The first vessel was delivered in July 2011; the second vessel will be delivered in March 2012. Furthermore I was project manager for the DP2 jack-up “Neptune” (Delivery Jan 2012), the backhoe dredger “Peter The Great” (Delivery Feb 2012) and the self-propelled heavy-duty cutter suction dredger “Ambiorix” (delivery May 2012).
